6th Graders learn about Global Warming and its effects on the Coral Reef

6th graders are learning about art activism and creating artwork that educates viewers on important issues. Currently students are learning about Global Warming and it’s effects on coral. Students began their artwork by drawing an underwater oceanscape of a coral reef from observation and have started painting using fluorescent colors…in the dark!
6th graders learned how some ocean life uses bioluminescence or light made from energy, and how coral use fluorescence. It is still a bit of a mystery to scientists, but they believe coral uses fluorescence to help protect itself from temperature fluctuation and sunlight.
